Joan Bauer: Hope Was Here --- Hope, the 16-year-old main character, has traveled all around the country with her aunt, a short-order cook. Their newest home? A small town in Wisconsin (one of the things that drew me in!). Hope lives up to her name as she adjusts to small town life, a new love, and a new involvement in a scandal-ridden mayoral race. Also by Joan Bauer are Rules of the Road and Best Foot Forward, two books about Jenna and her unlikely adventures at a shoe store and on the road with its cranky owner. Along the way, she learns a lot about life, loyalty, and love.
Anthony Horowitz: The Alex Rider Series and The Raven's Gate Series --- I've always enjoyed the action-packed teen spy series (probably because I loved the TV show Alias), and I have been waiting all year to read Ark Angel since it was always on the go from our library! I have never recommended this book to a guy (or girl for that matter!) who hasn't enjoyed it.
Wendelin Van Draanen: Flipped --- This book has two different narrators, Bryce and Juli, and the readers get to hear the boy take and the girl take on the same situation. The story follows the two characters as they grow up, grow apart, and come together.
I obviously have more favorite books, but I will save some for another blog. So for now....
Happy Readings!

I love your blog. To me it is reader friendly. I love to listen to music and the only way I really can enjoy a book is to listen to the book in audio. You have a great job! I am jealous of people who have the patience to sit and read. I obviously have to read books but I would rather listen to them being read to me.
Lynn,
I'm curious. When you deal with middle school reading materials do you actually read and enjoy the books or do you simply have the ability to recognize good writing for that age group? Also, as a high school teacher, I've noticed that many H.S. students seem to avoid reading. In talking to them I find that many don't read for pleasure. They avoid reading at all costs. I wonder if their early reading experience affects their attitudes later in life. It seems to me that the "reading avoiders" also are not very good readers (in terms of skill level). Maybe this connectino is obvious but as a lifelong avid reader it disturbs me to see so many young people turning away from books and spending more time in front of video games, computer scrreens, and televison sets. What are your thoughts?
The information here is great. I will invite my friends here.
Thanks
